The City acknowledges that the land Eureka rests on is known in the Wiyot language as Jaroujiji. Eureka has kept a sister-city relationship with Kamisu, Japan, since 1991. City parks range from Halvorsen Park, a 3.5-acre waterfront park used for concerts, festivals and community events, to Sequoia Park with its flower garden, group picnic area and the adjoining Sequoia Park Zoo. Da' Yas Park and a 12,000-square-foot skate park are also part of the city's reservable facilities. Eureka is a charter city.
